Roberto

Roberto, a Temple-based artist originally from California, has been calling this area home for the past eight years. While he doesn’t make a living from his art, he’s sold pieces and has had some featured at Feed My Sheep’s annual Through My Eyes Art Show.

Art has been a part of Roberto’s life since his earliest memories. His artistic journey began in kindergarten, inspired by a Tyrannosaurus Rex. He recalls looking at the dinosaur and thinking, “I could draw that.” And so, he did.

Although Roberto hasn’t had formal art training, he’s confident in the talent he has. He jokingly says, “I would go to art school, but I’d be a distraction. All the other students would just surround my table instead of paying attention to the teachers.” He’s honed his skills over the years, mastering various mediums like pencil, pen, spray paint graffiti and tattoos, taking pride in being able to use anything around him as a canvas. Now, he’s focused on perfecting his work with markers, particularly Sharpies.

Roberto’s artistic style is as diverse as his inspirations. He creates everything from cartoon characters imagined entirely in his mind to intricate portraits. His work reflects the world around him, as well as the creative spark within him. “God put it in me,” he says. “If I don’t use it, I’ll lose it.”

For Roberto, creating art is fun and fulfilling. While he doesn’t aim to evoke specific emotions in his audience, he enjoys his own art and hopes to one day see his creations in comic strips. He’s already designed a comic concept and dreams of contributing to a newspaper.

If you’d like to support Roberto’s work, he doesn’t currently have an outlet to sell his pieces, but he is happy to make them available for purchase at request. To buy any of Roberto’s artwork or commission him to create something specifically for you, please fill out the Temple TX Art contact form and we will connect you with him!
